Is Hungary still worth it for dental work?

This guide covers travel, process and cost. It contains no clinical advice.

Yes, on the numbers. A Budapest clinic publishes £420 for a standard implant fixture with the titanium abutment stated as included, £290 for a zirconium crown and £105 for the CT scan the plan is built on. That is roughly £710 for a tooth against £2,100 at the lower end of UK private pricing. Hungary has stopped being the cheapest destination in Europe, but it has quietly become the most legible one — and on a purchase this size, being able to read the price list is worth something.

The published list, in full

This is the whole reason Hungary still deserves a place on a shortlist. Very few clinics anywhere publish this much detail, and almost none publish it in the reader's own currency.

Against the UK

That comes to £2,945 including imaging. The same four teeth start at £8,400 in the UK before radiographs. The saving is roughly £5,500, and unlike most comparisons in this market both sides of it are itemised.

Against somewhere cheaper

Chișinău publishes 5,500 lei for a fixture and 5,000 lei for an aesthetic crown, about £450 for the pair against Budapest's £710. On the face of it Moldova wins by a third. But the Chișinău list does not publish an abutment price and the Budapest one includes it, and the Budapest figure above also carries the CT scan. Add a realistic abutment and imaging to the Moldovan side and the two land close enough that the decision stops being about price.

What is left to decide on is everything else: EU membership and the recourse it carries, flight convenience from your airport, whether the clinic will name the treating dentist, and what the warranty actually says. Those are the criteria we would rank first, and price only fourth — which is the opposite of how this market is usually sold.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hungary still cheaper than the UK for dental work?

Substantially. A tooth comes to about £710 in Budapest on published prices against £2,100 at the lower end of UK private pricing, and four teeth to £2,945 against £8,400.

Has Hungary become expensive compared with other destinations?

It is no longer the cheapest, and destinations outside the EU publish lower headline figures. Whether that difference survives adding the lines Hungary itemises and others do not is the question worth asking.

Does the Budapest implant price include the abutment?

The published list states that a standard titanium abutment is included in the implant price. That is unusual and worth confirming in writing for your own quote.

What does EU membership change for a patient?

It changes the regulatory framework and the complaint routes available to you. It does not make any individual clinic better or worse, and it should not substitute for checking the clinic itself.
